This past Saturday was Riverside Rockets PMC teams 5th Annual ride raising money for the Dana-Farber and the Jimmy Fund. There were three supported routes. 10, 25 and 62 miles.
This was my second year riding the 62 route. My friends and I (Michele and Stephanie) were a great team riding this epic challenge and we had a blast.
This is how it went….the day started off a bit foggy, chilly and overcast – perfect for riding. It can be really tough to ride in hot weather so the cooler weather and no wind is a huge plus for us. We started at 8am and ended around 1pm. There was a stop at the 25 mile mark which helped fuel us back up for the rest of the ride.
We traveled through Newburyport, West Newbury, Haverhill, Merrimac, South Hampton NH, Kensington NH, East Kingston NH, Amesbury and then back to Newburyport.
We had some interesting challenges; bathroom breaks, sore muscle and stretch breaks, food breaks, and the frustrating one was when my chain fell off as I was crushing it up a hill. We were about 8 miles away when this happened but the good news is that we happened to stop at home and the couple were also avid cyclists. BONUS! They helped fix my chain (thank you to the nice man for fixing it if your reading this) 🙂 Then off we went to finish the last 8 miles.
We ended celebrating at Michaels Harborside with the best tasting beer and apps you could ask for after an incredible journey of strength, determination and plain ol’ fun! It’s amazing what you can do when you put your mind to it. Thank you to all the people who donated to this very important cause.
A huge thank you to Brian Benson for being our photographer throughout the ride.
